Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI or GAI) has become a part of our everyday lives. GAI can be a valuable learning tool when used appropriately. Students may use Gen AI to support learning, generate ideas, and practice skills, but they are expected to complete their own coursework, demonstrate their own understanding, and submit original work. Gen AI should support student learning—not replace student thinking, creativity, or effort.

Students may use Gen AI to support learning, such as brainstorming ideas, exploring topics, and generating questions for further investigation.
When using Gen AI, students should:
Use Gen AI to support learning, not complete assignments for them.
Verify AI-generated information using teacher-approved resources.
Check all AI-generated information for accuracy before using it in assignments.
Follow all teacher directions regarding Gen AI use.
Be honest, and credit your tools. If your teacher allows you to use Gen AI, you must tell them exactly how you used it (for example: "I used AI to help me brainstorm story ideas"). Never turn in AI-generated work as your own, as this is considered plagiarism (copying someone else's work and pretending it is yours).
For safety reasons, personal information (name, birthdate, address, etc.) should not be entered into the prompt on any Gen AI platform.
No FVES course material may be copy/pasted into a Gen AI prompt. This means that you are not allowed to copy/paste your school assignments, quiz questions, or lesson texts into Gen AI.
Students may not use Gen AI to complete quizzes, tests, assessments, discussion-based assessments, or any assignment requiring independent work.

Did I check the information for accuracy?
Did I avoid sharing personal information?
Did I follow my teacher's directions?
If I used AI-generated content, did I cite it properly?
If the answer to any of these questions is "no," reconsider how you are using Gen AI.
