Math Manipulatives

    • The Math Learning Center is committed to offering free tools, materials, and other programs in support their mission to inspire and enable individuals to discover and develop their mathematical confidence and ability. The Math Learning Center has math manipulative apps that run on iPads, android and on the web (so perfect for Chromebooks, too). It includes Geoboards, Pattern Blocks, Number Frames, and much more.

    • The National Library of Virtual Manipulatives (NLVM) is an NSF supported project that began in 1999 to develop a library of uniquely interactive, web-based virtual manipulatives or concept tutorials, mostly in the form of Java applets, for mathematics instruction (K-12 emphasis). The project includes dissemination and extensive internal and external evaluation.

    • Google extension that provides manipulatives. Students use the pieces to represent multi-digit numbers, regroup, add, subtract, multiply, and divide.

    • Osmo merges tactile exploration with innovative technology, actively engaging children in the learning process. It uses manipulatives (letter or number tiles) that the student places in front of the iPad. There are several kinds of games to use with it. The "numbers" app is really engaging and can go from simple number recognition to multiplication. Lots of ways to modify from a teaching standpoint! The iPad apps are free, but there is a cost for the manipulatives.
