Art 3 & 4: Independent Study in Visual Arts
This course is designed for students with an advanced interest in the visual arts and who have completed both introductory classes. Students are given the opportunity to develop independent approaches in style, development, and artistic problem solving. There is an emphasis on refinement of previously learned techniques, skills, values and theories. Students will create a digital portfolio to document their work throughout class. Students will study the many careers in art and the various job opportunities available in the visual arts field. Prerequisite: Art 1 and Art 2
There are four different types of studio work. Students will choose how they spend their class time from these four types of studio work. With all levels of art in the classroom at the same time, quarters will still be organized by media, with 2-3 new options each quarter. Art 3 & 4 students will not be required to complete a teacher directed project to gain independence.
Studio options for first quarter: drawing, painting collage.
Studio options for second quarter: drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, fiber arts.
Studio options for third quarter: drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, fiber arts sculpture, ceramics.
Studio options for fourth quarter: all.

Semester grades will consist of the following:
Demonstration of understanding our covered art concepts and media
Mini Masterpieces (weekly drawing prompt completed on a Post-it note)
Studio habits of mind (artistic behaviors). Assessed per project and overall per quarter
Digital portfolio (accumulative representation of work) per quarter
Understanding of Art World (alternating biweekly Artist Connections, Peer Review)
