5th and 6th grade students visit the art room during one of their six block classes. Each class meets for 30 minutes, every day, for six weeks. Here students will start to take more ownership in their art making. This can come from subject matter or even media used. Many projects in the art room will still focus on media. While many projects we complete are combinations of multiple ways of creating, each project has a specific skill being taught. We learn about the lives and artwork of many different contemporary (living) artists and well as some "old masters."

When a project is complete, students complete an artist statement explaining and reflecting upon their art making process. I believe that their studio habits are as important as their final artwork. Therefore, students are assessed on their understanding and demonstration of our covered art concepts, their art making process, and their ability to share and reflect.
