Save energy on electricity consumption

  • In an average 4-person household, unnecessary costs due to standby account for about 10 to 20 percent of the electricity bill. Standby power averages about 40 to 50 watts. By completely eliminating it, you can save about 400 kilowatt hours (kWh) and 115 euros a year. Devices in standby mode can often be identified by indicator lights, time displays or transformers that stay warm or hum when not in use. (Source: Co2online)

  • Whether your washing machine is running full or half empty: The electricity and water consumption hardly changes. The bottom line is that you really save a lot of energy if you always load the machine fully.

  • LED lamps provide environmentally friendly and energy-efficient lighting. They use about 80 percent less energy than a conventional light bulb.

  • Turn off lights when you leave a room.

  • Shut down computers, tablets and even smartphones when not in use for long periods.

  • Heat water in the kettle, not on the stove. You can also heat pasta water in the kettle and transfer it to the pot.

  • Baking without preheating saves up to 20 percent energy. The oven door glass should be clean so it rarely needs to be opened during baking. Making the most of residual heat by turning off the oven five minutes before the end of cooking time.

  • Showering not only saves up to 70 liters of water compared to bathing, but also electricity if the water is heated electrically.

  • If the dishes are lightly or normally soiled, the short or economy program of a dishwasher with a water temperature of 50 degrees is perfectly adequate. Newer appliances have a special Eco program. It takes a little more time, but cuts down on electricity and water consumption.

  • Air-dry laundry instead of using a dryer.
