Four-Year College Admission Requirements

Students who would like to attend a public college must meet certain minimum standards. Verify requirements for public and private universities and programs with your desired college. The following are required to apply online for admission at four-year public colleges:

    • College Academic Distribution Requirements (CADRs), which include specific courses students must take during high school (see below).

    • 2.0 Minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) during high school, out of a 4.0 scale.

    • Official SAT/ACT scores. Students must take an official college entrance exam, such as the SAT or ACT, and have their scores sent directly to the college.

Two-Year/Technical College Admission Requirements

There are no specific course requirements for admissions to any community college within the State of Washington. English and math courses require placement into appropriate courses based off of the college’s enrollment procedures. Applications are online and are located on the school's website. Go to their website and look for "Apply" to take you to the admissions application.

Find YOUR College Fit!

There are many factors students should consider when selecting a college that is right for them. Consider the following in your decision:

Type of School

    • 4-Year Colleges - 4 year bachelor's degree that includes a liberal arts education.

    • 2-Year Colleges - Offers a variety of programs that include certificate programs of 18-months or less, associate degrees that take 2-years, and transfer degrees that directly connect a student to a program at a 4-year college.

    • Technical Colleges & Trade Schools - Technical colleges are similar in design to a 2-year college but they also focus on career training through hands-on education in a skilled trade. Class sizes can be smaller and very specialized to the student's program of study.

Program of Study

    • Not all schools offer all programs. It's important to consider what you want to study in determining a college fit. If you are uncertain of your intended program of study, consider a 2-year college or a comprehensive 4-year. A comprehensive 4-year college is one that offers a wide-variety of degree programs for you to choose from.

Location

    • Do you want to stay in-state or go to school out-of-state? Staying in-state keeps your costs lower if you plan on attending a public school. Private schools do not change their price for in-state vs. out-of-state students so the location doesn't change your tuition price. If you are looking at attending an out-of-state school, look at WUE schools and see if you qualify for a WUE Scholarship.

Cost

    • Cost of tuition can range from approximately $7,000-$60,000 per year at a 4-year school whereas 2-year and technical colleges are approximately $4,500 per year. Going to a public versus private school can make a huge difference to the cost of tuition as well.

Campus Size & Opportunities

    • Would you feel comfortable at a small, medium, or large campus? Smaller campuses offer smaller class sizes and personal attention from faculty. However, larger campuses may have access to additional opportunities, athletic programs, and facilities.

    • Consider your college community and what programs are available for you to get involved in. Are you interested in joining clubs, extra-curriculars, sports, etc.

Community

    • What type of community do you want to live in? Are you looking for a small town where the college is the focus of the community or more of a city environment? There is no right answer for all students. You need to consider where you are going to feel comfortable and where you are going to grow the most.
