7th Design Challenge 

Students should have practice with Engineering Design Process and adhering to criteria and constraints to solve problems. Students should be prepared to design at the Tech Fair.  The specific challenge is not revealed until the night of the Tech Fair. 

1 Team of 2 students from each school

This year’s challenge will be like last year’s challenge with a few modifications. 

 Overview (criteria):

• Students will be presented with a novel task. The task will involve designing a device(s) to successfully extract a variety of objects from a special challenge container.

• Students will use steps of the design process to plan, prepare, design, build and test their device.

• Each object will be worth a specific amount of points based on the level of extraction difficulty. 

• Winner will be determined by the total number of points accumulated. 

If you have not already selected your student representatives, consider the following traits when selecting-

• Problem solving

• Teamwork mentality

• Perseverance

• Comfortable working in front of an audience

Point values assigned to various objects.  Those with the highest extraction points are the winners.
