Safety & Required Forms
Due to the hands-on nature of many CTE courses, students will be required to use a number of hand and power tools. Prior to any work in the shop requiring tools, students will complete a series of safety lessons and quizzes. Safety instruction is very deliberate and is something I will reinforce with students all year. I consider myself a very flexible man, but safety is one of two things that are not negotiable - the other being showing respect to all staff & students.
Following each lesson, students will take a required safety quiz, for which the passing score is 100%. I look at it this way, a 90% is still an A, but would you be willing to work with just 90% of your fingers? Should a student score less than 100% on a safety quiz, they will have the chance to re-take safety quizzes.
Parents, please talk with your son or daughter about the importance of building and practicing safe habits in the shop. A safe shop is also a happier and more productive shop.
Below, please find hot-links to syllabi for all classes I teach and the Parent Safety Letter & Shop Safety Pledge. The latter must be reviewed and signed before students are allowed to participate in shop activities.
