Problem Solving

Problem Solving is the final CTE offering in middle schools across Frederick County. By this point every student has had experience with at least one CTE class, many with up to three, so students will be challenged a bit more. Building on the students' experience in I&I, the course focus is on applying the Engineering Design Process to complete challenges of varying length and complexity.

Ideally, students will take the skills learned in Problem Solving to other classrooms to enhance and increase their productivity and to problem solve more effectively. Students who particularly enjoy Problem Solving might consider continuing their CTE experience in high school and/or at the CTC. Offerings at the next level will give students a chance explore their interest in engineering in greater depth and develop the skills that will make them college- & career-ready.

Problem Solving is a fun class, but it is also one that is challenging and expensive to run. Consequently, I will demand a lot from Problem Solving students. Tips for success include: stay organized (including work in the digital environment), apply new information, support every action with sound rationale, work as a team player, do quality/safe work and be willing to work outside of the classroom (even if it's not assigned).
