Last Week
The Diplomats were defeated in both games of its non-conference doubleheader at Montclair State on Sunday. The Red Hawks took game one, 2-1, before completing the sweep with a 6-3 victory in game two. Spencer Berson led the Diplomats with three hits combined in the doubleheader. Patrick Cettina, Bobby Falese, and Evan Varga each tallied an RBI during the two games. Bijan Anvar had a good outing in his game one start that resulted in a no-decision. Anvar struck out six and allowed one earned run in five innings on the mound. Last Time vs. York
Franklin & Marshall picked up an 8-5 victory over York in the Diplomats' home opener last season. The Spartans tied the game at 5-5 in the top of the seventh, but F&M responded with a run in the bottom of the seventh and two runs in the bottom of the eighth to pull away from York in the contest. Falese led F&M with three hits and two RBI in the win. Tommy Denlinger '23, Pat Elliott '23, Andrew Filippelli, and Jakob Hoffman also tallied RBI in the game. Shane Rebane earned the win with two strikeouts and no earned runs in 1.1 innings of relief. Thomas McLaughlin picked up a save with one strikeout in his one inning on the mound. York Team Preview
York enters Tuesday's contest after taking two of three games from defending Division III National Champion Lynchburg last weekend. The Spartans are led by second baseman Lucas Prendergast, who is batting .462 with four RBI, two doubles, and a triple. Outfielder Chris Betler is also hitting .462, while recording one RBI and one double so far this season. In its three games this spring, York starting pitching has given up at least two earned runs per contest. Bryce Shaffer (9.00 ERA) started Saturday's game, while Brandon Purdy (5.40 ERA) and Evan Hughes (4.50 ERA) earned starts in Sunday's doubleheader. A 2023 first team all-MAC selection, Ethan Kennedy headlines the Spartans' bullpen. Appearing two games, Kennedy has struck out two and only allowed one hit to earn one save so far this year.
