Identify Your Priorities:
Before your appointment, consider your key priorities for the session.
What specific areas of your writing would you like to focus on?
This could include brainstorming, organizing ideas, improving sentence clarity, addressing citation style, or any other aspect of the writing process.
Your consultation begins with a discussion about your current assignment.
The consultant will inquire about the purpose and goals of your work, requesting any relevant prompts or instructions.
You will be asked questions such as:
"What are your writing goals for this assignment?"
"What specific challenges are you facing?"
"Do you have any particular concerns about your writing?"
Your consultation is a collaborative effort.
You and your consultant will work together to identify areas for improvement in your current assignment and develop strategies for enhancing your overall writing skills.
This open dialogue will guide the session and determine the most effective approach for your individual writing process.
Come prepared with specific questions or areas where you would like feedback.
Instead of general questions like "Is this good?", formulate more specific questions such as:
"Does my introduction clearly state my thesis?"
"How can I improve the flow between these two paragraphs?"
"Are my citations formatted correctly?"
Be open to discussing your ideas and receiving constructive feedback, even if it may challenge your initial approach.
View feedback as a valuable tool for strengthening your writing and developing your skills.
An open mindset will enable you to learn and grow as a writer.
If your instructor requires proof of your Writing Center consultation, please request a proof-of-visit from your consultant at the end of the session. This will be emailed to both you and your professor.
Only the consultant who conducted your session can provide this documentation.
Your feedback is very valuable to us. All feedback submissions are anonymous.
