Peer tutoring and GSP are equivalents
NHS members must complete a minimum of 6 peer tutoring hours per school year.
For the Fall semester, the member must tutor a minimum of 2 hours and a maximum of 4 hours.
For the Spring semester, the member must tutor the number of hours needed to complete the 6-hour requirement.
The tutoring must take place on campus.
When tutoring, you must notify a teacher BEFORE the tutoring begins, and then check back in with that person when tutoring has concluded. That person will then sign off on your hours. Read below to decide who the most relevant teacher would be based on your tutoring scenario:
During the school day:
The teacher whose student you are helping. For example, if you meet with a student during their Freshman Success class IN that classroom, their freshman success teacher can sign your log. If you meet IN Mr. Grant’s class, he should sign. Same for Mrs. Yon.
If you are unable to stay in a teacher’s classroom, use the Media Center. Mr. Young or Dr. Ballard are usually in the MC and will monitor and sign for tutoring.
1A, 4B: Maves is available, tutor in her classroom (not during other periods!)
2A, 4B: Schauder is available; tutor in her classroom (not during other periods!)
After school:
Mrs. Maves & Mr. Schauder are usually at school until 3:30 pm.
The teacher whose student you are helping: consider tutoring in the teacher’s AA!
You should not be tutoring unsupervised in the Front or Back Commons
School service hours:
Any additional tutoring hours beyond the 6 hours for NHS may be applied towards School Service hours. If this applies to you, use this form to track those additional hours, and the NHS advisers will sign off on your School Service Hours log.
