Before you lead your first tour, you'll have the opportunity to accompany a senior tour guide or designated trainer on a tour. This observation period allows you to gain firsthand experience of the tour's intricacies. You'll learn the route, navigate logistical considerations, and observe guest interaction techniques employed by the lead guide.
Shadowing exposes you to potential real-world situations, such as time constraints, group dynamics, and unexpected events, that may not have been covered in theoretical training. This valuable experience prepares you to handle these situations effectively as a guide.
To ensure a smooth tour experience for guests, please refrain from interrupting the lead guide with questions during the tour. Take detailed notes of any inquiries you may have and discuss them with your guide trainer at the tour's conclusion or contact them separately.
Once you feel comfortable with the tour content and delivery, you will schedule a tryout tour. During this tour, you will lead the guests while a senior tour guide or trainer observes your performance. This allows you to demonstrate your knowledge and leadership skills in a real-world setting while receiving valuable feedback.
After you successfully complete your trial tour, you'll be scheduled for tours of your own!
