Beverly Kyer| Keynote Speaker
Beverly is a Speaker, Educator, Consultant, Certified Compassion Fatigue Specialist, and Author who has devoted 16 years to training Human Service Providers and Family Caregivers; helping them employ self-care recovery and neuro-physiological regulation strategies. By understanding the risk factors and prioritizing techniques, they can rebound and remain effective and available to help those impacted by traumatic life experiences and At-Risk populations. Beverly’s training and coaching provides engaging, applicable, and practical tools for sustainability and wellness.

Kim Fordham, FRTC Director
Kim has been with FRTC for almost 23 years. She is very passionate about all the programs and strives to give each the support and guidance they may need. But on a more personal level, Kim loves nothing more than to connect with her staff and community. You can always find her helping after hours for a project or two, or at a baseball game!
Kim brings so much to FRTC and it is bittersweet that she is joining us for one more RFSW conference before her well-deserved retirement!

Marjean Hazen | IDHW Foster Care Program Manager
Marjean obtained her BSW in 1999 from Idaho State University and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Boise State University in 2009. She has worked with the Department of Health and Welfare since January of 2001 but has been the Foster Care Program Manager since October 2020.
What she loves most is the people she works with and for. She loves meeting new families who are willing to serve others by opening up their hearts and homes to children and families in need. Marjean also loves her co-workers and peers! She views her region 5 office and the team as her extended family. And now, that is growing and she has am learning to build a family across the state, although visitation is more difficult due to covid.

Julie Sevcik | IDHW Program Specialist
Julie has a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Boise State University and has been working with Child and Family Services since 1994. She has had the opportunity to work in many different areas over the years including safety assessment, case management, and foster care licensing in both Region 3 and 4. Julie has been a Child Welfare Program Specialist since November 2018. Her role as a policy program specialist includes child safety and foster care licensing recruitment and retention.
As a program specialist, Julie really enjoys the opportunity to engage with staff, community members, and other stakeholders to identify areas of our program that can better meet the needs of the children and families we serve and our staff and then help provide guidance on ways to affect that change.
Julie wants to thank each and every one of our amazing foster parents who care for the children of Idaho and their families. She knows this has been a challenging couple of years for each of you personally, professionally, and as foster parents. Yet, you have continued to open your hearts and your homes to children while supporting their return home. There are no words for the gratitude Julie and her staff have for you!
Session 2
Mark Dalton | Criminal Investigator at Internet Crimes Against Children Unit (ICAC).
Mark is currently assigned to the Internet Crimes Against Children Unit (ICAC). He investigates child sexual abuse and exploitation cases. He has assisted in multiple inter-jurisdictional child enticement operations in the state of Idaho. Mark also conducts public and school educational programs to enhance awareness of online safety and trends.
Mark has served in the county jail and as a patrol deputy for several years. He investigated all felony crimes as a detective, including child and sex crimes, and served on the Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET). He has presented in public and at school awareness campaigns on drug abuse and awareness. Mark is also a certified Crisis / Hostage Negotiator for the Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team (SERT) for six years. And has served as Field Training Officer (FTO) and departmental new officer / CSI trainer.

Shari Baber | Brown Like Me Founder
Shari Baber has been an educator for over 35 years and in the field of Cosmetology for over 40 years.
Shari moved to Boise in 1992 and opened her salon in 1997. Her work with foster families and transracial adoption started her research dealing with cultural connections, the importance of representation. Brown Like Me mentorship program is the nonprofit she founded to meet the needs of cultural connections.
Shari is a commissioner for Boise City parks and recreation. She also sits on the board of the Idaho Women's Business Center and is the founder of the Boise Soul Food Festival. Shari is acting vice-chairperson of the Idaho Black Community Alliance. Working with and in the Boise community is what brings her joy and she is nominated for the women of the year award. She was the winner of the inspire excellence award for her dedication to her community.

Susan Baca | Region 5 Recruitment Coordinator & PRIDE Trainer
Susan has recruited, trained, and supported foster parents as well as foster youth aging out for 25 years. One of the greatest parts of her work is watching the beauty of reunification and the amazing foster parents that facilitate that process. Susan has the greatest respect for the hard work that foster parents do to accomplish these goals. Susan and her husband, Charles, have 5 children and 8 grandchildren.

Elizabeth Dorpat | Idaho Foster Parent
Elizabeth and her husband Jesiah live with their daughters Avonlea and Ramona. They have been a foster family for three and a half years. They have fostered teenagers and babies (including one with severe medical needs) and their hearts have been stretched in so many wonderful ways.
They are especially thankful for the ongoing relationships they have with many of them and their biological extended families. They love living in the South Park neighborhood of Twin Falls and can’t wait for spring so we can play outside more and start their yearly vegetable garden!

Leslie Hickam | Idaho Foster Parent
Leslie and her husband, Josh, have been married for 21 years and have seven children. They have enjoyed being a foster family for five years. They both love helping our foster children grow and develop into the people they are meant to be. Another thing that they love about fostering is working with the birth parents. They have found real joy in those connections that continue.

Anne Sharp | Idaho Foster Parent
Anne Sharp has been a foster parent in Idaho for the past 14 years. She has worked with kids from birth to 18 years old and their families. She is also an adopted parent of 4 kids, along with her 2 biological children. Anne has a strong love for biological families and keeping kids connected whenever it's safe.

Wendy Brown | Idaho Foster & Adoptive Parent
Wendy has a BA in Business Management and Leadership, minors in education and psychology.
Wendy (and her husband of 28 years) has been a mentor and leader to over 300 teens, an Idaho foster parent to over 80 children, an adoptive parent to three children and one teen, and a birth parent to five children. With a degree in business management, education and psychology, she is now a Facilitator of the FASCETS Neurobehavioral Method, training and working with other caregivers and support personnel in positive ways to find the right fit for each individual they care for or support.
Wendy is actively parenting children and young adults with FASD, brain trauma, emotional trauma, Autism, cancer, multiple learning disorders, and more. She is mama to nine, grandmother to two, and calls the East Coast home where she leads a zoom faith-based support group for families affected by FASD and other Neurobehavioral Disorders between pruning, planting, and harvesting her orchard and garden.

Andrew Stinson | Region 1 PRIDE Trainer
Andrew has a passion for family. He and his wife have 8 children (5 birth, 3 forever fosters). As pastors and foster parents, they have been active mentors of 100's of children and parents. They currently live in Coeur d'Alene with their three grandsons and amazing roommate.
Andrew has walked the path of changing the norm of discipline within his own parenting and hopes to inspire others to take the leap.
Besides being a Workshop Speaker, Andrew is part of the conference tech team.

Shannon Foust | Idaho Foster & Adoptive Mama
Shannon is a mom of 9 amazing people and "Ama" to 7 grandbabies so far! She and her husband, Greg, fostered in Idaho for 16 years during which time they adopted five children.
Shannon became involved in the Resource Mentoring Program at its inception in Region 3 where she mentored foster parents through the licensing process, placement transition, and crisis situations. She also helped train new foster parents for many years and coordinated the Idaho Wednesday’s Child Program briefly. Shannon is not only knowledgeable about the ins and outs of fostering and adoption, but also passionate about encouraging and supporting foster and adoptive families as they walk through the parenting journey, particularly when it gets rough.
In her spare time she loves to write (and has contributed to two books so far), spend time with her family, and sit quietly watching movies with her Great Pyrenees, Max, as a footstool.

Gina Deeming is honored to return for a third time to Fostering Idaho’s annual conference.
She completed two cumulative certifications requiring 550 training hours in Spiritual Psychology. Gina integrates practical mental and emotional wellness tools into petite retreats with museum masterpieces, equine therapy at Ride for Joy, and her quaint neighborhood cut flower farm.

Marty McGukin | Fostering Idaho Trainer
Marty works as a Foster Parent PRIDE Trainer out of region 7. She started out as an associate trainer before becoming a main trainer but has been training for 3 years.
Marty and hubby Matt were also foster parents for the state of Alabama and Idaho. She is an amazing mother to three children, two of which are adopted and have special health needs.
She enjoys connecting with people and helping them know their value and worth. She is always the first one to be in someone's corner cheering them on while they discover all their potential.
Tennille Kober| Trainer with the Child Welfare Workforce Training & Development at FRTC
Tennille graduated in 2003 from Idaho State University with a Bachelor in Social Work. In 2014, she completed her Master of Social Work from Northwest Nazarene University. Tennille has worked in the child welfare system for about 20 years in a variety of roles including practicum experience, safety/case work, regional centralized intake unit, and safety/case management supervision. In addition, Tennille has volunteered over 13 years facilitating a variety of women’s recovery groups in her community. She has experience in hospice work and currently teaches adjunct social work classes for Boise State University.
Tennille’s family spends the long winter months snow skiing, and hot summer days mountain biking, gardening, and household projects. Tennille loves spending her extra time with their extended family. Tennille and her husband have a blended family of two girls and two boys. They have recently become foster care licensed to provide respite care.
Jill graduated in 1987 with her bachelor’s Social Work and began her career with the State of Idaho and has worked with Family and Children’s Services in various roles ever since. She has also worked for the State of Washington Children’s Mental Health and also taught middle school Language Arts and has fierce skills when it comes to getting a 7th grader to write a well-formed thesis sentence!
Away from work, Jill enjoys any activity that includes an ocean, lake, stream, or river. She likes to fish (not catch, just fish), have dinner with family & friends, go on road trips, museums and the Shakespeare plays in Boise. She always has a book to read, and nothing makes her day like a well-played pun or some sassy banter.
