This interactive keynote is designed to address the self-care needs of Resource Parents and Social Workers. Participants are encouraged to verbalize their understanding and connectedness to the multiple aspects of compassion fatigue with emphasis on the cumulative effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. Participants will be able to acknowledge their own levels of stress and experience tools and techniques to circumvent the most challenging aspects of their compassion fatigue and regain states of neuro-physiological (mind-body) regulation, recovery, and resilience. Learn to make choices to redesign your life for resilience in the face of overwhelming and emotionally intense demands.


Goal and Learning Objectives:                    

● Recognize the risks and challenges of compassion fatigue.

● Identify personal and professional impacts of compassion fatigue.    

● Describe some causes and triggers of CF and burnout.   

● Understand the importance of having each other’s back.          

● Learn how to be and have accountable partners.

● Appreciate asking for help and accepting help.     

● Understand the benefits of planned and intentional self-care.     

● Name some strategies for accelerated recovery and self-regulation.         

● Identify two benefits of planned and intentional self-care.

Keeping Kids Safe in a Tech-Filled World

Mark Dalton a Criminal Investigator with the Idaho Internet Crimes Against Children Unit, will discuss what parents can do as preventative measures, encourage parents to learn their own family’s issues, as no kid reacts or feels the same on two consecutive issues, and provide basic knowledge around keeping kids safe with tech.

Ethics of Confidentiality in Foster Care

This workshop will discuss the difference between Privacy and Confidentiality when communicating in the foster care field.  We will discuss some real-life examples and take a look at the DHW Standard for Confidentiality.  There will be the opportunity to discuss some scenarios and decide if the examples fit into the box of Privacy or Confidentiality.  While there may be some disagreement, the goal of this workshop is to provide a forum to discuss and decide how much to disclose and to whom.
