Welcome to Kindergarten!

My name is Mrs. Carvalho and I am starting my 26th year of teaching. I have taught second through fifth grade and have worked as a regular and special education teacher. I am very excited to take all of my years of teaching experience and use it to help kindergarteners become the strongest readers they can be!

What can I do to help my child?

• Read with your child daily - It doesn't have to be fancy or take a long time. Take five minutes each day to get quiet, get connected, and share a story. Both you and your child will feel the benefits!

• Ask them questions about what they are reading - You can ask simple, straight-forward questions such as who is the main character or what happened first, next and last. You can ask them to make a connection to something that has happened to them. Or ask them how the book makes them feel.

• Involvement in classroom activities and field trips - Reach out to your child's homeroom teacher and ask how you can help them. Be a mystery reader, offer to cut out laminating or check daily pages, come in to play games on a Friday. The more your child sees you invested, the more they will feel invested too!

• Join the PTO - The more involved you are with your child's school, the more invested you both are. Get involved (it doesn't have to be a ton of work) and get to know other families in your neighborhood and school.
