Medical Science
If you like working with people and helping patients, or envision discovering a new medicine for a certain disease, then medical science classes are for you. After graduating from high school, there are many pathways within a broad range of medical and research science. If you have an interest in the field of medicine or medical research, check out our areas of study.
Areas of Study
Therapeutic
In this pathway, healthcare providers are focused on changing the health status of the patient over time and work directly with patients. They may also provide care, treatment, counseling and health education. Careers include nursing, physical therapy, and sports medicine
Recommended Classes: Medical Science, Anatomy & Physiology, Nursing and Patient Care Services, Sports Medicine, Pharmacy Practices, Pharmacology, Advanced Physiology, Physiology of the Aging, Emergency Medicine
Diagnostic
In this pathway, healthcare providers use tests and evaluations that aid in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of diseases, injuries or other physical conditions. Careers include diagnostic medical sonographer, cardiovascular technologist/technician, magnetic resonance imaging technologist, and cytogenetic technologist.
Recommended Classes: Medical Science, Anatomy & Physiology, Medical Laboratory Diagnostics, Immunology, Epidemiology
Biotechnology Research & Development
Careers involve bio science research and development as it applies to human health. Scientists may study diseases to discover new treatments or invent medical devices used to directly assist patients to provide the accuracy of diagnostic tests. Careers include biology technician, biotechnology laboratory technician and medical scientist.
Recommended Classes: Medical Science, Anatomy & Physiology, Biotechnology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Advanced Physiology
