Basic Dos and Don’ts for Students:
· Students should never touch another student’s computer
· Devices should always be carried with two hands
· Students should only use a device that is checked out to them
· Games should not be played during class time- A DEVICE MAY BE TAKEN
**If you are having any technical difficulties or your device becomes damaged, tell your teacher right away.**
Technology
Our approach is simple:
OFF AND AWAY ALL DAY (9:30 AM–4:05 PM).
Personal technology and non-essential personal items must remain turned off, put away, and secured in a locker or backpack.
These items should not be in pockets, hands, or worn (neck, wrist, etc.) during the school day.
Technology (Phones, Smartwatches, Earbuds, Gaming Devices, Tablets, etc.)
Where use is allowed:
In the Commons during lunch, seated and used respectfully, sending only positive messages.
In the principal’s office or with administrator permission.
During specific emergency situations (such as a Hold or Secure) when staff direct students to contact families.
Instructional Exceptions:
Teachers may allow headphones/earbuds for specific learning activities using school devices. They must be put away immediately after.
Important Note: Devices should never be used during a Lockdown, as doing so could create safety risks.
If a Student Struggles with OFF AND AWAY…
1st Violation:
CARE Team support to help the student store the item properly.
Student keeps possession using one of these OFF AND AWAY options:
In their locker
Inside a zipped backpack or bag
In a classroom “Sleeping Bag”
In the office lock box
2nd Violation:
CARE Team escorts student and item to the office.
Student calls home.
Item remains in the office until the end of the day.
Returned to student or parent at the end of the day (admin discretion).
Repeated Violations:
Item is checked into the office and suspended from school use (1 week, 1 month, or longer).
Referral written.
Item returned to parent/guardian only, unless another plan is made.
If student brings or uses an item while suspended, they will face disciplinary action for defiance.
Safety Violations:
Any student who:
Records unsafe behavior
Participates in or ignores online bullying/threats
Fails to report threats or safety issues
…may have their device or personal item immediately suspended and may face further disciplinary consequences. Online behavior that causes harm, even off campus, may result in school discipline.
