Head Start Program Performance Standard (HSPPS)

(1302.90(c)(1) (v)

“A program must ensure all staff, consultants, contractors, and volunteers abide by the program’s standards of conduct that… Ensure no child is left alone or unsupervised by staff, contractors, or volunteers while under their care.”

“Maintaining procedures and systems to ensure children are only released to an

authorized adult…”

Explanation of Head Start Child School Nurse Supervision Requirements:

• Head Start staff or a designated adult must escort Head Start child to and from class for every visit the child makes to the office or the nurse. 

• The school nurse or designated adult must maintain continuous supervision while child is in the nurse’s office

• The Head Start student cannot be taken from the nurse’s office to another department or contractor without the permission and knowledge of the Head Start
