1302.47(7)(iv) The handling, storage, administration, and record of the administration of medication.
1302.47(4)(i)(H) Handling and storage of hazardous materials and the appropriate disposal of bio-contaminants.
1302.47(4)(i)(C) Administration of medication, consistent with standards for parental consent.
1302.47(7)(iii) Protection from contagious disease, including appropriate inclusion and exclusion policies for when a child is ill, and from an infectious disease outbreak, including appropriate notifications of any reportable illness.
1302.41(a)(b)(1-2) For all activities described in this part, programs must collaborate with parents as partners in the health and well-being of their children in a linguistically and culturally appropriate manner and communicate with parents about their child's health needs and development concerns in a timely and effective manner.
At a minimum, a program must:
Obtain advance authorization from the parent or other person with legal authority for all health and developmental procedures administered through the program or by contract or agreement, and maintain written documentation if they refuse to give authorization for health services; and,
Share with parents the policies for health emergencies that require rapid response on the part of staff or immediate medical attention.
1302.46(a)
Programs must collaborate with parents to promote children's health and well-being by providing medical, oral, nutrition, and mental health education support services that are understandable to individuals, including individuals with low health literacy.
Addendum 1:
Children who receive emergency medications should have the medication available at school every day accompanied by the prescribing and administration instructions. If medication is required for a life-threatening illness or medical condition, the child should not attend school or school-sponsored activities without the medication and/or documentation from the child’s provider.
Addendum 2:
School Nurse/Child Center representative must notify Early/Head Start (EHS/ HS) Nurse by email or phone call of all new emergency/rescue or routine medications stored at the school/child center.
Addendum 3:
A separate medication administration log is needed for emergency medications (stored in lock bag or box) in classroom for any medication to be immediately accessed with child at all times.
