IDL - Democracy

Right now our topic is 'Democracy'. We have been learning about famous politicians such as: Nicola Sturgeon, Barack Obama, and Liz Truss!

Why have we been learning  about democracy?

We are learning about democracy because house captain elections are coming up and we need learn how to write our speeches and what information we should include.

We have also had opportunities to apply our learning in persuasive language and we have practiced this by writing a letter to Ms  Sturgeon. We presented our ideas and tried to persuade her to shorten the school day!

Literacy

In literacy we have been learning how to write persuasively.  We have written letters trying to persuade our reader.  The AFFOREST technique is one of the many ways to remember the different ways to persuade someone.

Also in literacy we have been busy learning about Reciprocal Reading. This is where we read in groups and all get a role/job. There are 5 different jobs,

This way of reading allows us to apply our pervious learning of known reading strategies to deepen our understanding of what we are reading.

Maths

In maths we have lots of opportunities to be active and not just sitting at our desks. We love doing maths relays! This is where we get into groups of four and answer maths questions. Whoever finishes the questions first wins!

We also did a pizza hut maths challenge. Everyone got a pizza hut menu and a sheet of questions. In groups we then answered the questions and t was a race to who ever finished first. This allowed us to use our maths skills in a real life scenario.  Just like the maths relay whoever finishes first wins!

Another really fun maths challenge was the escape room. We had to try to solve ten  maths questions where each of the answers was a digit to the code to escape!

PE

During P.E time, we learn to play in a team and play fairly. We learn this skill  in games such as: Capture the flag, Cricket, Rounders, and Chaos Tag! We have fun while working in teams. Capture the flag is simple, there are 2 teams and a flag on each side the teams need to try and capture the others flag but if your on your opponents side you better be careful as they can tag you if you get tagged then you get put in the teams jail and to get out one of your loyal team mates must come to the side risking their life to save you. We also play badminton and learn how to play the forearm and the back arm, Everyone found it really fun and cannot wait till our next P.E time

This month we will be learning how to play Badminton. We cannot wait to learn how to play!
