Numeracy - Angles

In maths we are now looking at angles. We started by recapping all the different types of angles we know - acute, obtuse, right, straight, full and reflex. We made posters to remind us!

We also completed the Masking Tape Maze. All the different strips of tape created lots and lots of angles on the table. We had to mark the angle we were measuring, use a protractor to measure the size of the angle and then write it down, as well as the type of angle. We loved being able to write on the table!

After that, we wrote our names using a ruler and making sure there were no curved lines. Then we had to measure all the angles in our name! We noticed that there were lots of right angles and matching angles for example in the top part of the letter "M".

We have loved getting active and measuring angles, although it can be tricky to remember which scale to read on the protractor!

Remembrance Day

To celebrate Remembrance Day we created blackout poems using "In Flanders Field". We picked out the main words in the poem and decorated the rest of it using the themes of poppies and crosses.

We also created poppies using pointilism or pen. I think we did a great job!

Numeracy - Time

In Maths we have been learning about time. We started by looking at 12 and 24 hour time and how to convert between the two. Then we we looked at how to read timetables - train, plane, bus, cinema etc.

After that we made our own timetables and had to create questions for another group to answer.

Everyone did a very good job, but some of the questions were particularly tricky!

Can you answer our timetable questions?

Friday Fun

While creating our bonfire night masterpieces we celebrated the end of another great week of learning with Friday Fun!

We enjoyed hot chocolate and some sweet treats this week.

Every Friday we get a little drink and something to eat while we do our art. We all really like it and look forward to it every week!

Bonfire Night

To celebrate Bonfire Night we made firework pictures. We drew fireworks on the background using chalk pastels on black paper or pen on white paper. Then we made firecrackers and stuck them over the top. I think they turned out better than expected!

We then produced some amazing poems all about Bonfire Night. We used different senses to make some of the best poems we've ever done. We thought about all the things you would see, hear, smell and feel if you were at a bonfire. We also used onomatopoeia words in capital letters to add more emphasis and create an exciting description.

We hope you like them!

Halloween - 3D Haunted Houses

To celebrate Halloween we made 3D haunted houses. We had to fold and cut the paper in certain ways to make it pop out from the page. Then we started colouring it in and drawing details such as windows, doors and spooky Halloween creatures.

We also wrote spooky stories focusing on detailed descriptions of our settings. We had to use interesting adjectives and figurative language such as similes and metaphors. Everyone's stories were terrifying and gave Miss Itcovitz nightmares!

Read them and enjoy!

Black History Month

Throughout the end of October and first few days of November we celebrated Black History Month in our classroom.

We researched famous black people and found out what they did during their lives to support the rights of black people around the world. For example, Harriet Tubman took slaves into underground tunnels and helped them to escape from their masters.

I really enjoyed this project because it was fascinating learning more about her life!

Check out our projects all about Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Bob Marley, Barack Obama, Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford - people from the past and present who have been an inspiration to people all over the world.

Lego

We have been loving creating all sorts of structures with Lego! So far we've made everything from castles to haunted houses, boats, helicopters and football pitches. We even designed a new house for Miss Itcovitz, complete with a big kitchen for her to do all her baking in!
