Primary 5 Bravo have settled into the new school year fabulously!

Literacy

We have been learning about skimming and scanning. Scanning is when you look for one word and skimming is when you find key words and the overall meaning of the text. This is useful when you are researching or picking out a book. We have practised this by finding information for our leaflets and posters. Written by Ifrah

We have been learning how to create leaflets, posters and fact files. We have been learning about leaflets, we were making our own leaflets and we were putting facts about animals on it. We needed to include the title, pictures and colourful details. We made posters about Children's Rights, we needed to make them big and colourful. The information needed to be short but easy to read. We also made fact files about Georges Seurat and needed to use subtitles above the information. Written by Elayna

We have started learning about predicting. It is when you think about what is going to happen next and make a guess. We have been guessing about what will happen next in the story by looking at the picture. Written by Jessica

The Task Mats help our understanding and help us learn how to answer HOT questions. To answer the questions we need to look in our books and find the answers. The questions are all different types like read and understand and Explore some more. This helps us to think about the book. I like them. Written by Louise

Numeracy

Our rectangles have been covering misleading data. Exploring when the way data is presented can be misleading to the audience. This can be due to sample size, the scale used or the information they chose to display. The pupils explained it as something that was telling a little bit of a lie.

The squares have been exploring weight and converting it from grams to kilograms and in reverse. We have been trying a lot of different examples and reading different scales to try support our understanding. This is a topic we will cover again through different activities and look at converting different units of measurement in the future.

Our Triangles have been exploring addition and subtraction. Having explored a range of different questions looking at carrying during addition and borrowing during subtraction, they have been able to find a range of strategies to support them while doing this to build their confidence.

Other Areas

In art we have been learning about Pointillism. It is when you do loads of dots with lots of different colours and it merges together so it doesn't look like there is dots. It was started by Seurat. Seurat was a young man who came from a wealthy family and that allowed him to go to the school of fine arts in France. There was a lot of very famous French artist at the time. He was a shy man and he died at the age of 31. Written by Matthew

Seurat didn't mix the colours but instead he layered different colours next to each other. It makes your eyes mix the colours together. He created shading by going from lots of dark dots to fewer and lighter dots. Written by Ayma

PE: Badminton

We have been learning how to play Badminton. There is three ways to hit the shuttlecock and hold the racket with a V shape in your hand.  We did a lot of practise on aiming and had to get the shuttlecock through the hula hoop even when it was up high and moving. We got to play matches against each other. Written by Abigail F

Rights and Citizenship

We learned about the rights people have like shelter and safety and lots of others. We were creating posters about the UNCRC which stands for United Nations of the Convention of the Rights of the Child. Children have different rights to adult and the adults need to keep you safe, feed you, clothe you and help/care for you. Someone might leave their country if their rights are being denied. They have to provide a reason for leaving their country. Written by Ayma.

French

We have been revising some of the French we have covered previosuly and building up our basics. We have been playing the elimination game 21 in French along with covering basic greetings, addressing different people and starting a conversation.

Science

During our time with Mr Keir we have been learning about the water cycle. There are different stages in the cycle like condensation, evaporation, precipitation. All life depends on the water cycle. We used Tinkercad when we were learning about the water cycle You would make a design that had water and you would have to show how the water went through it and where it came from.
