October 2023

Some of our pupils have worked very hard to create this months blog post and are looking forward to you reading it!

HWB

We have been showing Miss Mercer our expressions and emotions while thinking about our friendships and resolving conflicts.

The pupils were exploring different emotion words and how some people might act or show different emotions. They were exploring how they can respond to different scenarios that could involve them falling out with their friends. The pupils came up with suggestions about how they could deal with this without making the situation worse.

PE

We have been learning skills like dribbling shooting and passes. We had a fun mini match. These are photos from us playing basketball.

The pupils have been building up and developing their skills. We are now focusing on postions and working as a team.

Directions, Compass Points and Coding

We were learning about compass points and how to remember them like saying - Never Eat Shredded Wheat. We were learning about the angles in the compass.

We watched a coding video of the guy who made Minecraft and how he loved coding.

We directed the new pupils at Hogwarts to all the different classes and had to use our compass points.

We have been controlling Alex and Steve in coding Minecraft. We were using our directions to help us with our coding on the chrome books.

Art and symmetrical patterns - involving maths in art

We have also done Islamic art and it is all basically different patterns and symmetry.

We used lots of colours 🌈🥰

Literacy

We were learning that predicting is when you guess what was going to happen next in a story. We watched a video and predicted what was going to happen, we got to check if our guesses were right or wrong and why we guessed them.

We have been learning that a good character description is when you describe something very detailed so the person reading it can picture the character. We have been looking at good examples of character descriptions and writing our very own.

We have been exploring the structure of story mountain. We have been looking at all the parts of a story that helps to make it exciting to read. We were able to create a spooky story that had a big exciting point in the middle and looked at how the build up helps to drop hints that something exciting is about to happen.

Numeracy

We had to solve a problem that involved getting everyone across a river. The boat could only carry a certain weight so we had to work out who could cross the river and take it back and forth. We managed to get everyone across the rive and solve it!

The pupils have created maths board games that explore different concepts. They have been enjoying playing them as part of their targets.

A lot of our pupils have been learning about multiplication and the different ways we can solve problems involving multiplication. They have explored both mental strategies and written methods to help them solve it. Daily practise of the times tables will help them to feel more confident when solving more complicated multiplication problems.

Some of our pupils have been exploring how fractions are created along with how to convert fractions to decimal fractions. They have been able to understand that a decimal fraction is another way to write the fraction and they can convert it back and forth.
