The days are colder and darker as we approach winter. But Primary 4b have continued to show super enthusiasm towards learning. Please read below to find out about what we've been learning this November! 🎇

Literacy

Mrs Rogerson, our student teacher, has been teaching us all about alphabetical order and using the dictionary. We have enjoyed being able to find out what words mean and how they are spelt.

Over the past month we have also all transformed into fantastic writers. We have been learning lots about the main elements of a creative story, and have used our new knowledge to write some imaginative stories of our own. First, we planned our stories by thinking about the main character, setting and plot. Then, we used our plans to help us during the writing process. We are very proud of the stories we have produced. Take a look at some of our blurbs that we have written.

 Olly

My story is about a boy called Thomas who was taken by aliens into a New World. He meets some new animals, such as his friend the sphinx and a giant eagle called the Roc. Thomas needs to get one piece from every land to get back home (Dragons cave, Zeus' temple, the Dark Woods, and the Volcano). Thomas fights creatures such as dragons to get all of the pieces from the lands. Do you think he will get home? - Written by Olly

Maria

My story is about Adele the fairy, and her sister's daughter gets lost. It is Adele's job to find her. So, Adele meets friends along the way in the Enchanted Woods! Do you think Adele will find Rachel?  Written by Maria

Anna

My story is about a fox called Trex and his friends have been taken by a hunter and put into animal control. Trex has a magic power, he can speak to the wind. The wind tells Trex to see the wise wolf to help save his friends. Do you think Trex will get his friends back? - Written by Anna

Numeracy and Maths

Our maths group has been learning about ordering numbers and finishing number sequences. We have been learning how to plot points on a graph and write down coordinates. We think we are doing a good job.

Written by Aurora and Harper

Our group has been doing DMAS and function machines. DMAS means Divide multiply add subtract, you use this when you have more than one rule in a calculation. In a function machine you have a input, rule, and an output. We have been learning to find out the input with the rule and output, the output when we know the input and the rule, and the rule when we know the input and the output.

Written by Isla W and Roshini.

Our group have been learning vertical calculations with 3 digit numbers. We know that you sometimes need to borrow from the next column and sometimes you need to carry numbers too! We think we are getting better at these vertical calculations. We have also started learning about place value to 4 digits, Thousands, Hundreds, Tens and Ones.

French

We love French in P4b. We are very good at the weather, answering the register and greetings in French. Over the last few weeks, we have been learning to write and say the date 'La date' in French. To do this we revisited the days of the week, months of the year and learned numbers 1-31. Many of us are now confident enough to discuss the date in French!

IDL

We have chosen our new IDL theme; Active Planet.

In Active Planet we have been learning about Volcanoes and Earthquakes. We made our very own seismograph to measure Earthquakes and how strong they were, don't worry we only shook the table it wasn't a real Earthquake. We also did some art to create a volcano and we used a technique where we blew paint to create the eruption. We used our senses (see, smell, touch, taste and hear) to describe a volcano. We are excited to see what we learn next.

Construction Starter

"On a Friday morning we get to do construction to make inventions using our imagination and it is very fun. We have to be careful with our hands so they don't fall." - SandyÂ
