What a busy month we have had in Primary 4b. We are all ready for a well earned holiday after lots of fantastic hard work and resilience on the lead up to Christmas. Please read below to find out about what we've been learning this December!🎄

Literacy

During our Literacy time we have been revising question and exclamation marks. Exclamation marks like to 'show off' and always be seen in a text, so we learned that they can be used to show strong emotion. We have got a good understanding of both now and enjoyed making our own colourful punctuation marks and used them to write some sentences on the table.

This month we have all began novel studies in our reading groups. One group became detectives and looked for clues on the front cover, the blurb, and the first page to help make a sensible prediction about their new novel. 📚

Following on from November's blog post, we have all now finished our creative stories and turned them into our very own books! 😊

Numeracy and Maths

We have been really busy this month with our Numeracy and Maths. Some of us have been spending lots of time practising our times tables to allow us to multiply larger numbers. We then used this knowledge and learned about inverse calculations, we are good at these!  Some of us have been looking at rounding numbers to the nearest 10, and have been using a football pitch to help us understand this better. We also looked at ordering numbers and number sequences to 1000. The rest of us have been looking at numbers to 1 million, ordering them, deconstructing, and reading and writing them in digits and words. We then looked at converting cm to m and vice versa with tricky numbers. 🔢

HWB

This month we have been learning about the World of Work. We researched skills for different jobs, and made some job posters to convince you to do the job. We did this for (author, footballer, engineer, and cook). Once we had looked deeper at the skills needed for different jobs we had our own interviews in class. There were three on the panel and one being interviewed. The panel asked questions related to the jobs and things about the interviewee. We had to be really serious and confident. We all really enjoyed doing the interviews and feel ready for ones we may have in the future. 👮‍♀️👨‍⚕️

Learning across the Curriculum

We have continued our class context 'Active Planet' over the last month and have been learning about Tsunami's and Hurricanes. We found it very interesting to learn that a Tsunami is a Japanese word with the English translation "harbor wave", and it is essentially a really massive wave that can cause a lot of destruction. We enjoyed making our own Tsunami wave step by step posters, have a little look! 🌊

We linked our learning of Hurricanes with Technologies and designed and created some hurricane proof buildings. First of all we were told that we could only use paper, and that our buildings had to be free standing. We worked very hard in our teams designing and constructing the buildings before testing;

All groups buildings stayed standing, and 1 groups construction didn't move an inch! 🏦

Christmas Technologies

We created some Christmas stars. It was a really fiddly task that required lots of perseverance and resilience! How beautiful do they all look! ⭐⭐

Time to decorate and party!

We have enjoyed counting down the day until Christmas. It was fun to decorate the class tree and classroom to make it feel very festive! We had fun at our Christmas party and enjoyed dancing with all of the other girls and boys in Primary 4. 🎄🎅
