PE

During this block of learning, P5/6 have been loving improving their skills within basketball and hockey. We have learned about effective passing, shooting, dribbling as well as the rules of play.

diwali

P5/6 learned about the festival of light and Diwali. We used clay to mould our own diya lamps. We decorated them with jewels and left them to harden overnight. The next day we mixed primary colours of paint together to create our own colour palette to decorate our lamps with. Don't they look great?

life saving

We learned about how to risk assess different situations and environments. P5/6 learned how to place an emergency call and what the first steps are when we find a casualty - look for dangers, call for help, check if someone is breathing and call 999. We also had great fun placing our friends in the recovery position!

water safety

P5/6 learned about how to stay safe both when swimming indoors and in the sea. We discussed the importance of not using inflatables in open water and how to get out of a rip current. We learned about not going out our depth in the water, and how to phone the coast guard. We applied all we learned to create our very own water safety posters to help others stay safe too.

st andrews first aid visit

We were lucky enough to have a visit from St Andrews First Aid who taught us about how to effectively bandage different parts of the body, how to deal with choking and what to do if someone has an injury with glass inside it. We had great fun role playing some different casualty situations!

persuasive writing

We have been learning how to write to persuade the reader by discussing our arguments, using powerful and emotive language, concluding our arguments and stating our point of view. P5/6 chose to write to Mr McDonald to request a banning of all school uniform! Watch this space... (though it may require a Christmas miracle!)

maths

P5/6 have been learning about different quadrilaterals and their properties. We can use the language parallel, adjacent, interior angle and perpendicular to discuss shapes like parallelogram, rhombus, kite and trapezium. Have a look at the incredible posters we made to showcase our learning.

We have also been learning about adding, subtracting and multiplying decimals, as well as converting fractions into decimals and vice versa!

fantastic fireworks

P5/6 used oil pastels on black paper to create pictures of fireworks reflecting on water. We were able to use lines and smudging to create differrent effects with the oil pastels. They've taken pride of place in the hall outside our classroom for everyone to admire. They really do look fantastic!

Class novel

P5/6 voted that they enjoyed Varjak Paw so much, that they wanted to read the sequel!  "The outlaw Varjak paw" is underway and we are loving it so far. Why not ask us to summarise the story so far for you?
