The titanic

P5/6 have been eagerly researching the Titanic to find out how it was made, what first, second and third class facilities were like, and how the Titanic compares to modern cruise liners.

Here we have some photos of constructing our own Titanic cabins using all that we have learned about them. We worked in trios and used recycled materials. Don't they look great?!

STEM fair

P5/6 learned all about different types of bridge structure and how they work. They used this knowledge to create their own bridges as well as undertaking research about building bridges sustainably.

Everyone involved in manning the stem fair stall spoke clearly about the learning that took place and did their class proud.

show racism the red card

We were lucky enough to be visited by Show Racism the Red Card who delivered a workshop to our class. We were challenged to think about our prejudices and what we could do to help when a racist incident takes place.

Reading

The Willy Wonka's have been enjoying exploring the writer's theme within the book "Wonder". We have explored the themes of compassion, judging a book by its cover, and being unique. We created our own Wonder - inspired art work, as well as creating our own precepts in the style of Mr Browne - the teacher in the story.

The Dogman group have been reading through "The boy at the back of the class" and have been exploring what it must be like to be a refugee, learning about life in Syria and why people seek asylum in the UK. We have explored the writer's themes of empathy and compassion.

Findlaystone country park class trip

We had a fabulous time on our class trip to Findlaystone Country park. We learned how to build an effective den, had fun exploring the woodland area and enjoyed playing games with our friends.

Author visit

Ross MacKenzie, author of "The Nowhere Emporium" came to speak to us about how he became an author, what inspired him to write his books and the writing process. We loved hearing what he had to say - especially given that the P6s read one of his books in class last term.

PE

We have been learning all about Athletics this term: in particular long jump, high jump, javelin, sprinting, hurdles and relay.

Our photos show some different athletics "stations" that we moved around to practice our skills.
