Our visitor this morning was Mr Meikle
It was nice to learn how rubbish can be made into road work materials. Jonah
We learned how not all rubbish goes to landfill, it goes to a place that it gets made into road work materials. Islay
It was very cool and interesting how rubbish is gathered altogether, how much people eat and waste. Ollie
He showed us all the landfills in Britain and I was very upset that there was so many! Emma McL
I liked the video and I liked how he explained how they put it in the machine and the machine cleaned the air. Charlotte
It was interesting that it goes through a machine and it goes through different stages. Some of it can be made into energy and they extract extra parts, they get sorted into ashes and metal. Connor H
I found it very interesting as this business seems very sustainable and I feel that it will make a big difference in human life. Megan
It was really cool how it was sorted into rubbish and it didn't smell good they would put it into a tube that would clear it and let it out into the air and it was nice gas now. Good for the environment. Lewis
A visit today from Gordon - I'm sure he looks familiar!?!
A visit to the Innovation Station.
Fantastic variety of STEM activities set out for the children to explore.
A massive thank you to Mrs Martin for organising this for us!
STEM WEEK
We are off to a great start this week with visits from Dr McMaster and Heather Fleming talking about their very interesting jobs.
We learned about poo and the poo chart. This chart lets you see how good your poo's are! Logan
I learned that McDonalds, KFC and Burger King can create holes (not actual holes) in your bowel. Connor
It was really cool when we go to see the video of the engine on the big boats and we got to touch the tools. Lewis
You have to wear a lot of special stuff to protect your body, head, feet like a helmet and steel toe capped boots. Hannah
Great fun at Rugby with Greig from Active Schools this morning.
Fabulous teamwork everyone!
Thank you for coming to our open afternoon, we loved presenting our Soar High Learning posters to you!
It was fun making sustainable windmills with you too!
Our Learning Context this term is How to Run a Business.
Today we visited The Eglinton Arms Hotel to have a question and answer session with the Manager, Adrian.
I was very proud of the children walking to and from The Eglinton Arms. They asked brilliant questions and responded well to the questions asked by Adrian. A huge thank you to our parent helpers for giving up your time to support our visit. Ms Paton
The Eglinton Arms is a hotel, restaurant and beer garden and they look after each bit separately. Different people do different things in the restaurant, one does breakfast, one lunch and one dinner. Samaya
It was very interesting all the facts that we learned like there is not a limit to how long you can stay but if you have to stay for a few months they will move you around but you are allowed to stay. Sebastian
It was really fun because we got to ask interesting questions about The Eglinton Arms and the one I found the coolest was that they had a 15 year old working for them before the rules changed. I asked why Adrian decided to become a hotel manager. He started working in a hotel kitchen and he thought a manager would be really cool, he worked his way up and with dedication he made it to manager. Adrian had to use lots of meta skills to get to where he is. Lewis
I learned that you had to be different ages to work in different areas. You have to be 18 if you are working in the rooms and you can be 16 to work in the kitchen because there are other people there. Charlotte
I learned about hospitality and how you shouldn't focus on one thing, focusing on multiple different things is better. Megan
It was really interesting and I learned lots of things like they do not treat it as one big business and they different staff for each things. Lois
It was really and I really liked how he told us how long he worked for and how he became the manager at the Eglinton Arms. He worked in other hotels like the city centre hotels. Connor H
It is very quiet in Primary 5.1 today!
