Colour Monster We have been exploring emotions and feelings and read the colour monster story whose feelings were all mixed up. We spoke about each emotion and helped the colour monster sort each feeling into its own jar, using tweezers to pick up coloured pom poms.

Greenbank Gardens A group of children visited Greenbank Gardens on the bus to learn all about bees. We were super safe and made sure our seat belts were fastened for the journey. The children played games pretending to be bees picking up nectar and found out bees communicate by doing the 'waggle dance' so we all waggled around the grounds, it was great fun! We listened to a story, smelled lavendar from the garden and even got an opportunity to taste yummy honey. We tried on costumes, a beekeeping hat and gloves before heading back to nursery. Thank you so much for having us!

Busby Glen The children enjoyed a lovely visit to Busby Glen this week, walking through the woods and experiencing the beauty of autumn and nature. They took part in an autumn scavenger hunt while developing their language skills talking about different sizes and shades of colours. Thank you to the families who joined us and we look forward to our next walk.
Diwali - The Festival of Lights We are finding out about Diwali and taking part in bright, colourful experiences. The children investigated coloured ice, exploring cause and effect by breaking it and observing the ice melting.

The children found a rope and crate and decided to pull their friends along leading to a real understanding of how pushing and pulling forces work - great teamwork and problem solving!
At Busby Glen, the children observed the fast flowing river with great curiosity, noticing how the recent storm had carried and scattered twigs and branches throughout the area.

Staying Safe with SIMOA
The children are learning how to stay safe and can recognise how to make safe choices in nursery.
Our elephant friend SIMOA is helping us and we know an adult should open main doors and gates. The children helped by putting signs around the nursery!
Some of our friends took part in risk assessing our outdoor environment so we are aware of potential risks and to check it is safe to play.
'Gate is shut'
Why do we keep the gate closed?
'Someone will run away'
'Someone will go in the special garden and there's no one there'
'You don't go out'
'It's not safe'
'Sand is ok'
Bonnyton House Visit
SIMOA came with us on our trip to Bonnyton House this week. We looked for signs of Autumn on our walk and saw a beautiful tree with different coloured leaves. We sang songs to the residents, including a French version of Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes, and played Autumn Bingo!
Baking Apple Crumble At the mud kitchen the children explored using apples, which we then connected to a real life experience indoors by baking a delicious apple crumble together - yummy!
Rhyme of the Week The children also took part in voting for our rhyme of the week, showing the importance of listening to their voices (Article 12: every child’s right to be heard). 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Once I Caught a Fish Alive was the favourite with 10 votes, closely followed by I’m a Little Teapot with 7.

Marvellous Maths
This week our nursery has been buzzing with mathematical thinking, problem-solving and plenty of fun! The children explored numbers, measures, sequencing and reasoning both indoors and outdoors, using real-life contexts to make maths meaningful. Look at all the fun experiences we have been taking part in!
On our trip to the library we noticed our foliage has become overgrown. The children saw that branches were sticking out and 'pinging' when we walked past. We walked around the grounds to the entrance and spotted 'bushes, plants and trees that have too long bits' so we worked as a team to cut the foliage and stop branches 'pinging'.

Growing A Love of Reading We enjoy our weekly walk and visit to Busby Library. The children confidently chose some of their favourite books and enjoyed Peter the librarian’s wonderful storytelling. Everyone had the opportunity to ask and answer questions about the story, and showed great listening skills! Visiting the library not only builds a love for reading but also helps develop listening skills and confidence in making choices.
Wellness Walk Families joined us for our Wellness Walk and we explored road safety by going on an adventure investigating our local community. The children were very curious and observant, spotting lots of road signs which sparked lots of questions about the bumpy pavement under their feet at the crossing. We discussed how the bumps help people with sight difficulties know where it is safe to cross the road. We also saw a road sign telling us where Busby school is!
We listened to Ziggy and the Lollipop story and found out how Ziggy learns how to cross the road safely with the lollipop person.
Autumn Time Is Here We are finding out what happens when the season changes. The children created their own artwork and shared their knowledge about Autumn.

Stay and Play Fun Our very first Stay and Play of the session was a roaring success! We were delighted to welcome families and everyone had lots of fun joining in with exciting outdoor opportunities, sharing favourite stories, building towers and taking part in fantastic role play in our hospital corner. Playing and learning together helps children build confidence, empathy, and communication skills, while strengthening those special bonds with their families. A huge thank you to everyone who came along!
