While our ongoing goal is to ensure all of our students learn, we know that every student will have questions or need some additional clarification from time to time. Students, we know your parents will support you in your learning journey and our teachers will work hard to help you learn as well as be available to help your outside of class. However for us to ensure you learn, we need your help. Specifically, we would ask that you please be honest with your teachers and let them know when you need help understanding a concept.
At Vernon Barford, our focus has always been on you, the learner, and making sure that you have the right tools and skills that will help you be successful.
Some of the skills we know you will need include:
identifying areas of strengths
recognizing areas of growth.
Once you can do that, we can help you create a plan, organize your work and take action to improve your learning over time.
We recognize that learning happens over time, and just because you don’t understand something in September, it doesn’t mean that you won’t understand it in October or November. That is why we give students many opportunities to show improved learning
and if new evidence shows a higher level of mastery, the new score will replace the old one. This also means that you will be expected to retain prior information that you have been taught…which is the very nature of learning!
Junior high can be pretty overwhelming at times, but there are lots of things in place to help you be the best student you can be! Whether it's easing you into grade 7, providing a little extra help with "that one thing you don't get in science", or assisting you with other academic or social help, we've got you! We are here to help you be successful - you still need to work hard, mind you - but you'll have everyone behind you all the way!! Failure is not an option, and everyone in the building works hard to make sure you succeed.
