Regular programming is based on curriculum determined by Alberta Education in a way that is accessible for all learning styles and backgrounds. The regular program will help every child live up to their potential by giving them the tools they need to be engaged thinkers and entrepreneurial, ethical citizens.
It includes Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education, Second Language (French or Spanish), and complementary courses in the Fine Arts, Performing Arts and/or Career Technology Foundation areas.
Students seeking entrance into the Gifted and Talented (G&T) program must already be coded Gifted & Talented from their elementary school. This is not done at Vernon Barford.
Gifted and Talented programming supports students who have advanced ability compared to other students their age. These students have exceptional potential or ability across a wide range of areas, from creative thinking to understanding abstract relationships.
The Gifted and Talented Program at Vernon Barford focuses on enrichment and going deeper into same grade outcomes and concepts. It is not an accelerated program that goes into higher grade curricula.
