Epic College and Career Readiness Events Calendar

Epic Virtual Internship Program courses are a unique option available to juniors and seniors looking to enhance their resume and earn Next Step credit. Students participate in a fully virtual internship experience where they engage in real-world, career-focused assignments to build and apply professional skills.

Across all tracks, students develop 21st-century skills such as communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and time management while completing a capstone project that demonstrates their learning.

Available Courses

Virtual Internship Certification Track

Juniors and seniors will earn 1.0 Next Step elective credit and will sit for 1 of the 18 industry certification exams currently available. In the Certification track, students develop 21st century skills while completing exam preparation.

*Students may take this course up to four times, once per semester in grades 11 & 12 as long as they pursue a new certification each time.

Virtual Internship Career Exploration Track

Juniors and seniors will earn 0.5 Next Step elective credit. In the Career Exploration Track students learn about and develop skills related to their chosen occupation and develop 21st century skills.

*Students may take this course up to four times, once per semester in grades 11 & 12 as long as they explore a new career each time.  Students are eligible to have 1 section of Epic Virtual Internship Career Exploration on their schedule per semester. 

Virtual Internship Fast-Track

Juniors and seniors will earn 0.5 Next Step elective credit. In the accelerated eight (8 week) Virtual Internship students prepare for their post graduation path by developing 21st century skills and honing professional preparedness.

*Students may take this course twice, once per academic year in grades 11 & 12 during alternating semesters. For Example: If a student completes the course in the spring of their junior year, they are eligible to take the course again in the fall of their senior year.

Enrollment and Expectations

Enrollment Information

Students indicate interest in the Epic Virtual Internship Program during the ILP process with their teacher and select their preferred track. Any schedule changes after the ILP process will be completed by the student’s teacher.

After the course is added to the student’s schedule:

  • Students complete a short enrollment form and select a class time

  • Students are contacted to confirm placement

Teachers submit schedule changes before the published enrollment deadlines.

Course Expectations

Students in all tracks are expected to:

  • Attend and participate in weekly live Zoom instruction

  • Complete all assigned coursework and activities

  • Communicate professionally with instructors and peers

  • Stay on pace with weekly expectations and deadlines

  • Engage in a capstone project throughout the course


Course Credit and Capstone Requirements

Credit Information

Next step elective credit is awarded upon successful completion of course requirements, including:

  • Active participation in instruction via chat or unmuting

  • Completion of all assignments

  • Completion and presentation of a capstone project

  • Demonstration of professional skills throughout the course

By track:

  • Certification Track: Earn 1.0 credit through completion of coursework and an industry certification exam

  • Career Exploration Track: Earn 0.5 credit through career-focused learning and assignments

  • Fast-Track: Earn 0.5 credit through completion of the 8-week accelerated course

Capstone Project Information

All students complete a capstone project that demonstrates their learning and application of a professional skill. Capstone projects are designed around real-world workplace scenarios and may vary by track and semester focus.

Each project includes:

  • Creation: Planning, research, and development of a final product

  • Presentation: Sharing the process behind your project with peers

  • Reflection: Evaluating the learning process and outcomes

Support is available throughout the course. Students are encouraged to attend office hours, ask questions, and seek feedback at all stages of the project.

Program Attendance and Drop Policy

Attendance is required. Teachers will be notified when a student misses class.

Students who miss multiple consecutive weeks and fall behind on assignments may be dropped from the course. Communication attempts will be made prior to any schedule changes.
