Alternative Internship

Epic College and Career Readiness Events Calendar

Alternative Internships

Students who are designated OAAP qualify to participate in an alternative internship. Alternative internship plans must be approved by the student's SPED Compliance Specialist. The requirements for the course may not be modified. Hours, Soft Skills, and all other assignments will still be required in the Schoology classroom. However, the type of internship may look different than a traditional internship to meet the needs of the individual student. The 60 hours can be fulfilled by tracking the hours spent on the completion of the skills listed on the alternative internship form.

Teachers may contact their SPED Compliance Specialist or Anita Manuel at anita.manuel@epiccharterschools.org for guidance in creating an alternative internship.

How Do I Enroll?

  1. Step 1: Complete the alternative internship form by making a copy from this link and following the video instructions found here. You may use the Alternative Internship Ideas below or create your own opportunity for the student.

  2. Step 2: Submit a "Review of Draft of IEP" fresh service ticket to your Compliance Specialist.

  3. Step 3: The Compliance Specialist will reassign the ticket to the GSS for addition to the student's schedule once approved.

  4. Step 4: The GSS will add the course to the student's schedule and the Schoology course will load. It may take up to 7 days for the course material to arrive in the course.

Alternative Internship Ideas

Students may complete hours in multiple service/industry areas to help identify areas of interest while focused on their transition plan. However, students must complete a minimum of 60 hours total per course section on the student schedule to qualify for Next Step credit. Additionally, students must complete (3) soft skill assignments per section on the schedule as well as the other activities found in the Schoology classroom.

The following Alternative Internship Ideas are not exhaustive, but meant to aid in the completion of the Alternative Internship Form.
