Although rockhounding and shop work can be a singular effort, having friends that enjoy some of the same sort of things makes it more interesting. Sharing a campsite, food prep, discoveries, and how we process our finds is part of what keeps us hounding!
Here is a collection of folks who have shared lots of hours tromping over field and mountain in pursuit of the perfect rock.
Bob is a retired professor and Dean of Business and almost a geology major! Bob and I have been on many an adventure together from hunting dinosaur bones in South Dakota to almost freezing to death in the mountains of Nevada. Bob is the map man and researcher. If someone has written about a site, he can find it!
Bob is a great cook and can make camping seem like Chez Outback!
If you need a Civil War story, the history of a firearm, or any sort of arcana, Bob is the guy to invite on your dig.
Need a loan? Craig could have helped you. He is a retired banker with time on his hands to explore. Craig has more rocks than money, and that's saying something having been a banker.
He will walk circles around everyone else looking for float, but when he finds a vein he can dig like a badger.
Send him ahead and scout a ridge. Sit back and hear the report. Then you can plunder the mountain later!
Randy has a side-by-side. What else do you have to know? He loves to get out and explore with his rig and can fit 3 in the front and one in the back and 5-6 buckets.
Unfortunately, Randy is a working stiff so can't join us as much as we would like. He has more rocks than any of us!
Steve is the "thunder egg guy" as he specializes in these rocks from all over Oregon and beyond. He probably has one of every kind found in the north west.
He is also keenly found of the Owyhees, Rome, crazy looking jasper, and dust. Always eager for a rock trip, Steve will go on a trip with most anyone.
Retired science teacher and professor, Michael is interested in anything STEM. Michael's rock interests are limited to igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks as well as fossils, lapidary and...is there anything left?
What nature has wrought in rocks is testament of an amazing Creator.
As an educator, Michael has made opportunities for youngsters to get the rock-loving bug.
