Welcome to the Enumclaw School District Elementary School Counseling Site
Mission Statement:
The mission of the Enumclaw School District’s Elementary School Counseling Program is to support the academic, personal, social, and career development of all students at high levels through the delivery of a comprehensive and standards-based school counseling program. In collaboration with colleagues, families, and community partners, we will empower all students with the mindsets and behaviors they need to build meaningful and respectful relationships with others, develop a positive self-image, achieve academic excellence, and pursue future career and higher-education opportunities.
Why Elementary School Counselors?
“Elementary school years set the tone for developing the knowledge, attitudes and skill necessary for children to become healthy, competent and confident learners. Through a comprehensive developmental school counseling program, school counselors work as a team with the school staff, parents and the community to create a caring climate and atmosphere. By providing education, prevention, early identification and intervention, school counselors can help all children achieve academic success.”

Kelso's Choice:
Our school-wide problem-solving model teaches students how to handle Small Problems using Kelso's wheel and various choices such as: Make a Deal, Ask Them to Stop, Talk It Out, and Wait and Cool Off . Students also learn the importance of being a responsible reporter and telling an adult when there is a Big Problem. Kelso the frog is a fun and engaging way for children to learn conflict management.

Conscious Discipline
Enumclaw School District utilizes Conscious Discipline which is an evidence-based, trauma-informed approach to creating a school environment that maximizes student learning through practices and routines that reinforces student safety, nurtures self-regulation skills, and fosters a sense of community and belonging.
Conscious Discipline is based on four essential components that are scientifically and practically designed for success:
Brain State Model
The Conscious Discipline Brain State Model recognizes three basic brain / body / mind states likely to produce certain behaviors. Intentional, state- specific responses enable access to advanced skills.
Seven Powers for Conscious Adults
The seven powers create a shift in the way adults see conflict so we can maintain composure and consciously respond to difficult situations. Adults’ ability to self-regulate is the precursor to teaching children social-emotional skills.
Creating the School Family
The School Family increases connections between adults and children at all levels, ensuring optimal development for all. A School Family culture is built through consistent modeling of routines, rituals and structures.
Seven Skills of Discipline
These seven skills transform everyday discipline issues into teachable moments, equipping children with the social-emotional and communication skills needed to manage themselves, resolve conflict and develop healthy behavior.
