Team 14 Progress Report
Winter 21 - Week 9
Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
In scope of Gantt Chart, in “Re-Design/Retesting Phase”
Iteration 2 of Stress Device is on the way
Strain device going through testing and refinement
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Stress
All new circuit components have arrived
Now waiting on 3D printed components to come in, and final iteration can be assembled
Assembled final testing rig with grid lines to achieve stress/strain curve with rubber bands in sutured and severed forms (John)
Arduino code calibration complete from 0.5N - 10N (John)
In process of converting code to print on LCD screen instead of printing on the Arduino serial port (Ryan)
Strain
Tested a new ruler prototype and the software was able to detect the markers (Archana and Tejas)
Fixed minor bugs within the software (Tejas)
CAD model to include camera and hook element approved by sponsor (Archana)
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Stress (John and Ryan)
Assemble final iteration of stress device (circuit integrated into form factor)
Conduct final rubber band testing
Strain (Archana and Tejas)
3D print CAD model to include camera and hook element
Test the prototype to give strain values
Overall
Complete all other deliverables (final report, webpage, intellectual property filing)
Conduct final design review presentation with sponsor
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Sponsor Meeting held on Tuesday, March 2 (over Zoom)
Cadaver testing delayed to next quarter
Will invite team to test on a specified date, team is willing
Approved the current models and testing schedule
Both stress and strain devices will undergo testing next week
Advised team to look into IP filing website and showed us how to use it
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Comments from post-presentation questions from Preliminary Design Presentation
Asked about alternatives to FSR being considered
Currently looking at piezo-related sensors, will be included into design recommendations in final report
Asked about issue with 3D markers
Cleared up that we had used the clearest photos we got from testing, program was having problems sensing the markers, but has since been fixed in latest testing
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Mostly questions about future of device (from post-presentation questions)
Explained that the “end” of this device will be very user-based in terms of the direction this device will go, many decisions will be made based on how surgeons feel about such a device
Risks and Areas of Concern
Real time values for strain without user input
Resources or Information Required but not Available
