What has been done in the past week
2D Moment
Added zip ties to rigid body to easily clip on the lanyard strings
Added stands to the pegboard
Truss Challenge
Tested out different materials for connections (built 4 small bridges)
Decided on foam core circles
Lasercutting acrylic parts for pin and rocker support (in progress in the design studio)
COM Challenge
Produced multiples of all shapes in machine shop
Polyurethane foam cut with water jet
Painted most of the shapes
Wrote an answer key that calculated the COM of each shape
Reaction Box
Finished printing and cutting final parts and adding strap
Buckling demo tool
Created cross sectional areas and sent to Chris to test material blend
Vector Box
Started preliminary design
Bought some materials
Feedback from last meeting with sponsor
COM Challenge
Assignment outline
Students first calculate COM
Then students make a stacked configuration using the physical shapes
Students will then calculate the COM of the final stacked configuration
Use velcro to attach shapes together
Truss Challenge
Foam core circle is good
No glue for connections
Acrylic lasercut supports are good
2D Moment
Zip ties are good for connection
Buckling demo tool
Add grid onto shapes
Try to print longer length, more shapes
Ball with string
Don’t want rope to break or tangle up in user’s hand
Report Feedback
Document how to create our tools
Manufacturing process or where to purchase at the lowest cost
Need to document a step-by-step how to make so that other people can recreate the tools if they want to
Document what you’ve tried / what doesn’t work
Use pictures in the documentation
What is the next step of your project
Truss Challenge
Need to figure out values for cost and environmental score for truss members
Build mini structures to test the difference in strength when using all wooden dowels, all lollipop sticks, and a combination of them
Use that info to figure out how to scale the other variables
Rebuild a mock up of the analyzed design using the new connectors + acrylic supports to test how well the experiment aligns with calculations
COM Challenge
Finish painting shapes
Write assignment prompt
Test various stacking configurations for stability
Try velcro
Buckling demo tool
Decide on material blend and prepare different cross sectional areas
Vector Box
Finalize design in Solidworks and AutoCAD
Buy materials and send parts to machine shop
