What have been done in the past week

• Finished fabricating the 2D moment demonstration tool

• Finished machining and fabricating parts for reaction box

• Built first prototypes of Hyatt Regency models

• Center of Mass Design Challenge

  2. Began solidworks part designs and assemblies

  1. Decided on potential materials and ordered them

  2. Went through the design process & calculations

  3. Built the bridge as a team and tested if the calculations matched up with the results

Feedback from meeting with sponsor

• 2D Moment Demonstration Tool

  1. Need to represent the force/position vector

  2. Paint the acrylic rigid body 2 colors for better visibility

  3. Look into rod push connects to attach the string to the rigid body

• Truss Design Challenge

  1. Lollipop stick material properties are difficult to find, may need to find allowable load for these lollipop sticks before it buckles ourselves and provide that info to students

  2. Are there alternative materials that could be better? We are not limited to household items since this design challenge likely won’t be implemented this quarter

• Reaction Box

  1. Add another journal block bearing to have one moving and one not moving bearing

  2. Change 1 detachable hinge into hinge with axial thrust

  1. Painting the acrylic rigid body & adding pipe cleaners for the force/position vector

  2. Finding a better way to attach the string to the acrylic body instead of tying it on

• Truss Design Challenge

  1. Finding better ways to connect the truss members & testing them out

  2. What material properties, if any, do we need to provide for the students and how are we g

  3. oing to do that?

  4. Finalizing more details about the challenge (problem statement, design constraints, etc)
