Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Currently conducting force analysis tests on tree stress case: proof of concept
COTS aluminum extruded blocks were researched to see if manufacturing time could be reduced. Nothing was found that could easily integrate itself with the small circuit board. Therefore, there must be a personally designed mount/case.
Glasses are slowly being designed with more and more specification on solidworks
hinge design is in preliminary stages but temporarily on hiatus
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Materials have been gathered to construct force analysis tester for tree stress case
Prototype for hinge has been produced but needs further refinement
Tree Stress group is still awaiting final decision on inclusion of RJ11 port vs. audio jack
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Have completed glasses frame ready for prototyping (dimensions must be accurate to support mock circuitboards). The goal is have a CAD design with an example of all the electronics integrated. From here, a protyped will be 3D printed.
Have a set of data from tree stress to find out the smallest force needed to induce a wave. This information will then be used to simulate the force of a hammer in Solidworks on the current housing design.
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Jet Lag: sponsors haven't changed much; just want to see progress on designs
Tree Stress: sponsor is leaning towards keeping the RJ11 port for now, or at least the inclusion of an audio jack. A micro sd will not be used during the first iteration of the project but may be used for the second round.
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Need to work more on content and mechanics rather than aesthetics
need to investigate extruded aluminum blocks as a means of supporting PCB in tree stress
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Students questioned the viability of the housing structure
Risks and Areas of Concern
Areas of Concern: will the ribbing be able to withstand typical forces? Will the tree stress housing only make it a larger target? Should everything be made of aluminum instead?
Glasses: hinges and aesthetic design
aesthetics are a constant source of concern because every design decision will affect how the product looks
Resources or Information Required but not Available
Battery consideration with sponsors- in the middle of making decisions on size and shape/ function
Schedule
hope to complete side frames by the end of this week and the front frame by the end of next week
Budget (list amount spent and amount remaining)
Progress on Report and Webpage
Report is being steadily completed, week by week. Will need much more improvements and refinements before being permissible as a final report.
