Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Risk reduction test scheduled for Tuesday April 12th at Fiesta Island
The new blade prototype has been fabricated
Flat bottom will be added to test sled for risk reduction test
Water jet will be mounted in front of blade
Cheek plates will be mounted to front tow shackle to deflect obstacles
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Met with sponsor and discussed about the new design and the next risk reduction test
Fabricated prototype plow blade
Met with Greg Specht about blade design and water jet orientation
Designs completed for final sled
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Order material/start fabrication of actual sled (Zak)
Order materials/start fabrication of steel blade (Joe)
Order materials/ start fabrication for reel to trough system (Paulina)
Improve the reel tensioned brake design and focus on adding more resistance to the reel flange (Hanh)
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
New design of plow blade may be too thin to provide enough downward drag
Adding wider cutting teeth
Deep sea batteries do not hold charge
Going to replace internal battery packs
Using regular sea battery for risk reduction test
Polycarbonate prototype blade may have stress cracks near mounting locations
Adding inserts for bolts
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
Use a rachet to control the cable feeding rate instead of a tensioned brushed brake
A rachet can stop the reel spinning backward, but it doesn’t add resistance to stop the reel from winding up (when it spinning forward too fast)
