Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Stirring Stage
The functional requirement of the stirring stage is to rotate the bioreactor with variable radii of rotation
The stage must be able to support the bioreactor system's weight as well as function within an incubator
Early concept design included a three plate system with rails and bearings
In order to cut down on material weight, the stage will be connected to a rotating crank base with adjustable radii of rotation
Bioreactor
The functional requirement of the bioreactor is to provide a space in which the media may be thawed, fed, separated (living cells from dead cells), and extracted
The container must have a non-curved base to prevent cells from settling and clumping along the sides
Early design decision was to have a bottom and top port
Sponsor feedback (indicated below) has brought back the feasibility of a side/top port system

Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
Stirring Stage - base must light enough for operator to lift and remove from incubator
Concept design has been adjusted to reduce material parts needed to construct base
Bioreactor - During filling process an operator may tilt the container for maximum draining
This brings the side port option back into consideration
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
Risks and Areas of Concern
Stirring Stage
Dimensions of stirring base and radii of rotation must be within the constraints of the incubator space given
Material weight of stirring base must be light enough for operator to handle
Motor of stirring stage must have enough torque to rotate under the weight of the bioreactor
Bioreactor
Determining the best materials to use (container, pumps, tubing) before proceeding with fabrication
