In the Garden

2019

This past year I found my primary interest in printmaking, more specifically in woodcut. I have found the repetitive action of carving into wood to be relaxing. I appreciate the way that I can compose a design into wood and the resultant sharp lines that are produced when printed. Woodblock allows me to investigate what works best for the image, whether it is multiple lines to create space, or simple black and white shapes that create objects and form.

As my time here at the college comes to an end, I want to look back and think about all of the things that have made me who I am today. This past year I have gone through some adjustments with family, friends, and in life. There were heartbreaks, growths in relationships, and COVID-19. Quarantine brought unforeseen difficulties with understanding how to produce images with the essence of a woodblock print without a press.
