A Linguistic Landscape (LL) is the collection of visual language represented in a public space. This means road signs, advertisements, newspapers, graffiti, posters, and any other public language. Analyzing LL can help us contextualize the perspectives, ideologies, and terminologies that the public is exposed to within a broader, sociocultural framework.
Disability
In this upcoming project, we will be focusing our analysis on the LL of disability, specifically the language that non-disabled people encounter in everyday life that indexes disability in some way. We hope to explore how disability is represented through terminology and ideologies presented via language.
