Advisory will take on several key roles for the 2020-2021 academic year. In addition to being a space for you to both have a closer relationship with a caring adult in the building and a group experience with your peers, advisory will carry specifically-designed programming throughout the year. Also, advisory will serve key logistical pieces that are essential to school reopening.
Programming
Our advisory program is being planned on a month-by-month basis this year. The areas of focus early in the year and often throughout the year are community building, social and emotional wellness, and equity and justice conversations.
Logistics
You will attend advisory at the start of every day. This is a change in our new schedule, as we'll want to make sure that you are ready for the day ahead. Even if you have a free period to start the day, we ask that you zoom into advisory to check in, catch the programming, and continue connecting with one another.
Once we return to campus, your advisor will do the following:
Check to see that you've submitted your health information through the USN-provided app.
Check to see that your PPE is prepared for the duration of the day (you'll need to bring two masks per day).
Check to see that you are signed up for a space for both lunch time and a free period should you have one.
As we set out early in the plan, flexibility will be a key for us as we move back into the school year.
Family Support
Advisors are always at the ready to check in with you about individual student needs. Advisory at USN is at once a social endeavor for the group and an expression of the close relationship between student, parent, and a faculty member. Please feel free to reach out to your student's and check in as needed.
