This course begins the core sequence for our students.
Through Human Geography, students learn to apply geographic thinking to places around the globe both near and far. Students learn to recognize and interpret patterns and assess the nature and significance of the relationships among cultures, politics and economics while building their writing and analytical thinking skills.
Relative Pacing: A full year course, 4 Units per Semester, an average of 5 weeks per unit with a summative unit assessment.
How students are assessed: Students demonstrate their understanding of maps, regions, cultural artifacts through document-based questions (DBQ essay), multiple choice assessments, and projects. Here is a sample free response question: “Please identify and explain the challenges that a landlocked country faces.”
Daily Tasks: Students analyze documents, texts, maps, cultural artifacts. Students build their writing skills using document analysis.
Out of class expectations: Students will be required to conduct readings, watch videos, work on projects, and their vocabulary assignments for roughly 2 hours a week.
