Clayton Brumfield is a 2016 Eastern Hancock graduate. Clayton earned varsity letters in track and football.
At the time of graduation, Clayton was the school record holder in the 800 and 3200 meter runs and was a member of the school record setting 1600-meter relay team. Clayton’s school record in the 800-meter run still stands. Clayton was a leader of a team that was Mid-Hoosier Conference champions his sophomore and senior seasons. He was named the most improved as a sophomore and top runner and scored the most points his senior season. Clayton was a regional qualifier and Mid-Hoosier Conference champion his senior year.
In football, Clayton was a member of the semi-state championship football team as a sophomore. His senior year he was named to the Indiana Football Coaches Association All-State, All Hancock County, and All Mid-Hoosier Football Conference teams as a cornerback. Clayton was a part of one of the most successful eras in Eastern Hancock football history, as the team had a 40-11 record during his football career.
Clayton concluded his high school career by being named the winner of the Carolyn Johnson Senior Male Athlete Award, the highest recognition presented to an Eastern Hancock athlete.
Clayton went on to a highly successful career at Franklin College in cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track. He set school records in the indoor 3000 meters, outdoor 1500 meters and mile run and in cross country. He holds the Hoosier Collegiate Conference meet record in the 1500 meters. Clayton was named all-conference twice each in indoor and outdoor track, and all four years in cross country.
Clayton works in the family business, Dave’s Pools. He, his wife Shelby, and their four-month-old son live in the EH school district.
