Jon Cain

Inducted September 17, 2021

From the mid 1990’s to 2005, Jon Cain and Chet Ellis were the face of the Eastern Hancock Athletic Boosters. After taking over leadership of the group while their children were attending Eastern Hancock, Chet and Jon’s efforts and ideas led to a tremendous increase in fundraising efforts and contributions to the Eastern Hancock athletic department. Chet and Jon started the annual 3 on 3 basketball tournament, which continues to be held each spring, established the athletic boosters as the lead organization in the Eastern Hancock Booster’s Food Tent at the Hancock County Fair, and started the corporate sponsorship program that gave sponsors recognition in the game programs at varsity sporting events. With the increase in funds raised by the boosters under their leadership, large contributions were made to the athletic department to fund many needs, including construction of new dugouts on the old baseball and softball fields, and the construction of the concession stand and restroom building at the football field that is still used today.

Chet is retired and lives in the area, supporting his five grandchildren that now attend Eastern Hancock schools. Jon passed away in 2019, supporting his three grandsons that are now becoming involved in athletic programs here at Eastern. Chet and his wife, Penny, are here to accept his recognition. Jon’s plaque is being presented to his wife, Julie, and daughters, Beth and Becky.
