Household Close Contact Protocols

Definition of a close contact: A household contact is defined as an individual that lives in the same house as a COVID-19 positive individual.

HOUSEHOLD CLOSE CONTACT STUDENT/STAFF: 

• • Exempt from quarantine and may return to school utilizing the Monitor to Stay Program.

  • COVID-19 test on Day 6 after the last day of exposure is strongly recommended.

  • The Household Contact MUST consistently wear a well fitted mask throughout the school day and while participating in school related activities. The duration of mask wearing is based on their ability to separate from the individual in the household who is positive with COVID-19. 

  • Household close contacts who cannot separate MUST mask for fifteen (15) days from the positive household members day zero (0) of infection.

  • Household members who can separate MUST mask for ten (10) days from the last date of contact with the positive household member.

  • A surgical mask or KF-94/KN-95 mask is strongly recommended. 

  • If ANY symptom develops, the individual MUST stay home and get a Covid-19 test. 

  • Per RIDOH, if students or staff have/develop any one symptom of COVID-19, they aren’t eligible for the Monitor to Stay program and should stay home, isolate, and get tested. 

  • Once their symptoms are resolved and they have been fever-free for 24 hours, they can resume Monitor to Stay /return to school with a negative test result.
