What is ManageBac?

ManageBac is Eerde's online academic management and progress-tracking platform. It is used primarily in the Secondary School and provides students, families and teachers with a central place to access information about classes, assignments, assessment and academic progress.

Students and parents are provided with their own access to ManageBac and are encouraged to use it regularly to keep up to date with academic information.

The exact features and information available may vary depending on the student's year group, subjects and academic programme.

What do we use ManageBac for?

ManageBac brings together key information relating to a Secondary student's academic programme.

Students and parents can use ManageBac to access:

• classes and subjects;

• homework and assignments;

• upcoming tasks, tests and academic deadlines;

• assessment results and grades;

• teacher feedback;

• course information and files;

• the academic calendar;

• student timetables;

• attendance information;

• academic messages and notifications; and

• formal school reports.

The dashboard provides an overview of upcoming tasks and events, while the calendar brings together class tasks and academic events in one place.

Using ManageBac - Dashboard Overview

When you log in to ManageBac, you will arrive at the main Dashboard.

The Dashboard provides access to the main areas of ManageBac:

1. Top Bar
The top bar provides access to account settings, messages and notifications, help functions and account controls.

2. Dashboard
The main dashboard provides an overview of upcoming tasks and events, helping students and families see what is coming up.

3. General Menu

The general menu includes:

• Overview – returns you to the main Dashboard.

• Calendar – displays class tasks and events together in one overview.

• Attendance – allows you to view the student's attendance record.

• Messages – displays messages connected to courses, tasks and events.

4. Academic Menu

The academic section provides access to:

• Progress – view academic progress and grades for individual classes.

• Timetable – view the student's timetable.

• Portfolio – view files that have been added to the student's portfolio.

• Reports – access formal school report cards in PDF format.

The appearance of ManageBac and the options available may change over time or vary according to the student's programme, but these are the main areas families will use.

Viewing Classes, Assignments and Grades

To look more closely at a particular subject, select Progress and then choose the relevant class.

Within the class overview you can see:

1. Term
Select the term you would like to view. The current term will normally be shown automatically.

2. Teachers
The teacher or teachers responsible for the class are displayed here.

3. Tasks and Events
This section shows assignments, assessments and other tasks associated with the class.

Where applicable, you will also be able to see the student's score or grade, together with relevant documents or information uploaded in connection with the task.

The information displayed may vary according to the subject and curriculum.

Homework, Assignments and Deadlines

Teachers use ManageBac to record and communicate homework, assignments, tests and other academic tasks.

Students should check ManageBac regularly to:

• see what work has been set;

• check submission dates and deadlines;

• prepare for upcoming tests and assessments;

• access relevant course files and information; and

• review grades and feedback once these are available.

The Dashboard and Calendar are particularly useful for keeping track of upcoming work across different subjects.

As students progress through Secondary School, we expect them to take increasing responsibility for monitoring ManageBac themselves and organising their work accordingly.

Assessment and Academic Progress

The Progress section allows students and parents to look at academic information by subject.

Depending on the class and programme, this may include individual assignments, assessment results, grades, teacher feedback and supporting documents.

ManageBac therefore provides an ongoing picture of academic progress between Eerde's formal reporting points.

Timetable and Attendance

Students can access their school timetable through ManageBac.

Attendance information is also available, allowing students and parents to view the student's attendance record alongside their academic information.

Reports

Eerde's formal academic reports are published through ManageBac.

When a report has been released, it can be found in the Reports section and accessed as a PDF document.

Parents and students should therefore use ManageBac as the main location for accessing current and previous Eerde academic reports.

ManageBac in the IB Diploma Programme

ManageBac is particularly important for students in the IB Diploma Programme, where it supports the organisation and monitoring of different elements of the programme.

Alongside individual subjects, assessments and deadlines, ManageBac is used to support the management of programme requirements such as CAS, TOK and the Extended Essay.

IB Diploma students are expected to use ManageBac regularly and take responsibility for keeping track of the requirements and deadlines associated with their programme.

ManageBac and Orah

ManageBac and Orah are both important Eerde platforms, but they serve different purposes.

ManageBac focuses on academics and learning, including:

• classes and subjects;

• homework and assignments;

• tests and assessments;

• grades and academic progress;

• timetables and attendance;

• academic resources and deadlines; and

• formal academic reports.

Orah supports the wider student experience, including:

• student safety and whereabouts;

• behaviour and positive recognition;

• pastoral care and wellbeing;

• activities and trips;

• boarding processes; and

• relevant communication between Eerde and families.

A simple way to remember the distinction is:

Parent and Guardian Access

Parents and guardians of Secondary students are provided with their own ManageBac account linked to their child.

We encourage parents to check ManageBac regularly. It provides a useful way to stay informed about your child's academic programme, upcoming work, attendance and progress, and is where you will find their formal academic reports.

ManageBac also supports students in developing independence. As students progress through Secondary School, we expect them to take increasing responsibility for checking their own timetable, assignments, deadlines and academic progress.

Student Access

Secondary students have their own ManageBac account and are expected to use the platform routinely as part of their school life.

Students should use ManageBac to:

• check their timetable;

• keep track of homework, assignments and tests;

• monitor upcoming deadlines;

• access course information and files;

• review grades and teacher feedback;

• check their attendance record; and

• access reports and other academic information.

Students should speak directly with their subject teacher if they have questions about a particular assignment, assessment, grade or information within a class.
